Atlas misalignment is not comparable to a simple cervical muscle contraction or joint blockage as understood in osteopathy and cannot be corrected through basic manipulation or a simple massage.
Given the limited physiological rotational mobility between the Atlas and the occiput, it is reasonable to assume that the cause of its misalignment is traumatic in nature.
Birth trauma is considered the primary cause, as misalignment is often observed even in newborns.
The presence of this misalignment before a child learns to walk rules out the theory that ascending postural issues, such as pelvic obliquity or scoliosis, are the primary cause of the misalignment. By "ascending," it is meant a cause originating from below.
Other theories suggesting that dental malocclusion or jaw deviation is the cause of Atlas misalignment are refuted by the fact that a newborn, without teeth, can already show a misaligned Atlas.
Although such issues may negatively affect the cervical spine and posture, they do not represent the primary cause of Atlas misalignment.

In general, medical reports and radiological examinations are NOT necessary. Only in rare and specific cases may a computed tomography scan be indispensable, as evaluated by your AtlantoMed specialist after an in-person examination.
X-rays and MRIs are generally useless for visualising and assessing Atlas misalignment. Only a correctly performed computed tomography can precisely identify the Atlas position in relation to the skull.
Errors are frequently observed in Atlas assessments carried out by therapists or physical medicine doctors who are not specialised in Atlas correction. They tend to focus on muscle conditions and head mobility without evaluating the true position of the vertebra.
The manual palpation techniques taught in training courses often come from "professors" who, unfortunately, have never radiologically verified the effectiveness of the tests they propose. These methods have been transmitted from theoretical sources, such as books, or from other instructors who, in turn, have never conducted concrete verifications.
As already emphasised, the use of a simple X-ray or MRI is not sufficient to determine the precise position of the Atlas. What are the consequences of this?
Exactly! The actual position of the Atlas is not correctly identified. If the initial position of the Atlas is not known with certainty before treatment, nor whether it is actually misaligned, how can proper correction be carried out? How can it be claimed that the problem has been resolved and the vertebra aligned? If it was not possible to determine its position before treatment, it is unimaginable to do so afterward. As a patient, you have no way to verify what you are told and often find yourself having to blindly trust the therapist's or doctor's statements. Unfortunately, these claims are often unfounded. Immediately after manipulation, you are told that the vertebra has been corrected, but at the next visit, you are informed that it is out of place again, justifying the need for further corrections, creating an endless cycle that keeps you as a patient.
We invite you to reflect on why AtlantoMed can solve the problem permanently with just two sessions, while other therapists, with their few-second manipulations, offer ongoing treatments. Although "subscription" patients are much more profitable, why are two sessions usually sufficient at AtlantoMed, except for rare exceptions?
